Anyone who grew up in the 40's would have nightmares at the possible return to what women experienced before Roe v. Wade. Freedom of choice is a beautiful reality thanks to these pioneers.
I remember the bad old days when sexism and harassment were just normal everyday occurrences. I'm a peer of Letty Cottin Pogrebin and was in the middle of the fight for women's rights. It's not that long ago that the NY Times had separate job listings for "Men" and "Women." You can bet the women's were mostly for clerical positions. Pogrebin was one of the pioneers along with behind-the-scenes women like the TV reporter Marlene Sanders and PR executive Muriel Fox who co-founded NOW with Betty Friedan.
I was lucky enough to be invited to Muriel's NY apartment for an informal conversation with Friedan. There were maybe a dozen of us sitting at the feet of this incredible woman. I will never forget that evening. She was ridiculed and reviled for being too "pushy" but it was pushy women who cleared the path for women today who have so many more opportunities than we did, witness those in the Biden admiinistration.
Love being reminded about Letty. I hadn't thought about her lately, but in the 90s, I lived in Riverdale and often walked by her house. This was always one of my favorite articles - https://www.nytimes.com/2010/10/19/nyregion/19bigcity.html - and I was a proud owner of "Free To Be..." Great salute and glad she's still around!

Flashbacks and frustration! Forgot about “Free to be you and me”. Now I have to get a new copy for my grandson, Leon.
