More than $350,900 to remodel the bathrooms? That must have contracted with the DOD on toilets!!

Carrie,

I miss you so very much in the H-T and am thrilled to have you back to inform me about the very important under-represented stories of our community. Such an easy fix and so many excuses.

It's relatively easy to offer the amenity: restrooms. Why is it so difficult for the City to understand?

Going out on a limb here, but imagine how they could look and function with the input of a female architect.

Do any elected officials (City or County) understand that Sarasota isn't the only tourist destination in Florida? Take visitors for granted and they will find other places to "go".

You are a master pot stirrer, Carrie! The amounts quoted sound a bit exorbitant. It looks the same as it did ten years ago!

Third world facilities? Gold plated fixtures are in line for the expense envisioned.

Thanks 🙏 Carrie!

This is pathetic...and $350,000. for a redo seems obscene. Think they need a new purchasing department head in their administration. These are basic toilets and sinks, they don’t even have gold fixtures, and it would be nice if the doors actually fit and locked.

Ever wonder why people don’t trust the government..they give us many reasons not to.🌻

First of all, LOVE your last line in this column! Since I make sure I see a restroom pretty much everywhere I go, it would be great if bathrooms were the first of renovations. I'm sure I'm not alone with that.

These kinds of restrooms are why I always carry a roll of TP in the car. I would rather go in the woods!!

And nobody thought to put in temporary facilities in the meantime? Even a porta-potty is better than this. Hmmmm - maybe we need a protest - a sit-in?

Yes, once again, we are from the government, and we are here to help!

Great article Carrie! In my travels I see all kinds of nasty bathrooms, but when you have to go, you have to go.

Update, ran into City staff member on site today and asked timeline. Construction starts next week and resteoom trailer being delivered in the next few days. Great news. Friend visiting from out of town remarked about the hideous restrooms today. It was nice to be able to say, coming soon. Especially after enjoying the fine cocktails at the new concession stand. Laszlo and family and staff are doing a great job! So grateful. More to come!

While the City of SRQ stalls and skimps on updating a key tourist/beach pavilion, our County Commission can always find the maximum funding allowed (from $17 to $20 million) to underwrite the construction of extravagant "tourist" venues---virtually none of which have brought uniquely new visitors to Sarasota County from outside the State of Florida. The great majority of tourists come here for the beachers and great weather--taking in a ball game on a free afternoon.

Nearly $75 million in tourist bonds have renovated Ed Smith Stadium, created the "world class" but unprofitable Benderson Rowing Park, built the Atlanta Braves Cool Day Stadium and the final $20 million approved recently for an aquarium moving from Sarasota Bay to a retention pond by a shopping mall. And where does the funding come from to finance these bonds? It comes from tourist revenue generated by people visiting our "beaches and enjoying our weather".
