Addiction to alcohol affects so many homes. I can't imagine having to be a small child and growing up in that environment. It causes so many broken people. And most of them don't ever recognize it or get help for it.
Being a caregiver for someone you love in their final stages of life IS the hardest thing you will ever do - whether you have mental health issues or not. There is very little help out there for these caregivers. And once you let hospice into your home, you have to deal with their judgements and biases too. How you want to do things gets taken out of your hands.
Kudos to Susan for making it through these difficulties and choosing to turn this into a positive by reaching out to others to help him. I think we all travel the road of The Wounded Healer in some way or another.
Such a powerful story! I appreciate the level of vulnerability in her sharing. So many caregivers struggle with guilt, confusion, and anger bordering on rage. I know I have! She addresses it all so well. Thank you for sharing her story.
Susan's journey was an exhausting read so kudos to her that she lived it and survived! Another great story, Carrie!
