For our friends in Sarasota and Florida
Our podcast storyteller Scott Ehrenpreis debuts his one-man show in May
I don’t normally promote events, but many of you who listened to our recent podcast with Scott Ehrenpreis have asked for more details about his one-man show and how you can see it.
In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, “Clowns Like Me” will have its world premiere on May 18 at the Cook Theater at the Florida State University Center for the Arts in Sarasota. Playwright Jason Cannon has turned Scott’s experience of living with mental illness and Aspergers into a dramatic evening of theatrical storytelling that is at once enlightening, poignant, heart wrenching and funny.
Whether you already know what it’s like for someone who lives with a mental health condition or you’d like to know what it’s like, this unique production will increase your awareness, open your eyes and touch your heart.
Tickets are available at Clownslikeme.com.
As an extra bonus, if you happen to be part of the audience on opening night, you can show up a bit early and listen to some great straight-up jazz standards played by The Jazzberries — musicians Chris Cournoyer (upright bass) and Keaton Williams (keyboards), both of whom have also been part of the FACEing Mental Illness project. (Full disclosure: Keaton is my son.)
Wishing Scott the best of luck in this long-awaited debut.
